I have never been a runner but decided that 2012 would be my year to try it!! I always wanted to try running half marathons but have always been too afraid to sign up.  In early Jan, a good friend of mine dared me to buy someone’s BIB for the Inaugural Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland 3 weeks before the race.  I decided to give it a try , I did not train for it.  I used my Beachbody work outs to get me ready.  When I crossed the finish line with tears in my eyes, almost 3 1/2 hours later, I felt like a champion!!  This is what I learned:

  1. Training first is a good idea (I was very sore after)
  2. Running skirts and sparkle skirts make you run faster 😉
  3. while it might not seem logical, tutus and wings are totally acceptable when running at Disneyland
  4. Bio-Freeze is a LIFE SAVER!!  Stop and get some where ever they have stations on your run and pack some in your bag for after
  5. Drink at each water station
  6. Drink the Gatorade when ever it’s available
  7. GU at mile tastes amazing!!
  8. People of all shapes, sizes and ages run.  Even people with handicaps: NO EXCUSES!!!
  9. It’s OK to cry when approaching the finish line
  10. Starting a race is HARD but finishing is easy and getting the medal and the pride that goes with it is worth it!!!
